The 2006 – 2007 school year has been very
exciting.
The school enrolled 19 new students and
retained 8
students from 2005/2006. Jacob Irving, T’von
Cole,
Jessica Lewis, Candice Fox, Jasmine Boyd,
Deja
Birch, Diamond Mingia and Sylvia Jones are
beginning second year students. All of them
are
progressing quite well and enjoying doing so.
Hats off to Derrick and Dionne Manning. They
started
the school in August of 2006 and are currently
the
Musicians for their church. Each of them plays
two
Sundays per month. To God be the glory!
Emmanuel Gibson is zooming through his
material.
He anxiously comes to practice and starts
without
instruction. He moves quickly through the
pentascale
and into the C scale. We will hear of him later
in life
as a great musician.
Crystal Kay continues to inhale and exhale as
she
builds her confidence to sing with good tone
quality
and voice manipulation. Keep on pushing
Crystal!
Joshua Gray just started and he is doing a
great job.
He is learning very quickly and appears to
enjoy his
class each week.
Flotesha Meeks is preparing for a pageant in
Greensboro, NC later this summer. She will be
playing Fur Elise by Beethoven. Thumbs up
Flotesha!
Brittnay Long has written to pieces of music.
She was
very ecstatic about them. Maybe in a couple
years,
we’ll be picking up a copy of her sheet music.
Hats off
to Brittnay!
Diamond Mingia is steadily trucking along.
Diamond
likes to look ahead and anticipate the tune of
the next
song. She always says “can you play this”?
Keep up
the good work Diamond!
Charles Lotson keeps me on the edge of my
seat.
Never underestimate a male named Charles,
especially Charles Lotson! Charles is the first
male
recipient of a Wal Mart Card. It was hard to
hold on to
those points, but he held on until the end!!
Taylor Keyes hit the ground running when she
started
piano lessons. Well, she’s still running, but
moving
between intervals slowed her stride. Not to
worry,
she’s coming back. Taylor has received two
Wal Mart
cards in less than 3 months. Intervals or not,
she
racks up the points! Good job Taylor!
Marshall Troublefield just started in February,
and has
put a lot of theory under his hat already! He’s
not sure
if he’ll be ready for the recital, but he promised
to think
about it. He doesn’t want to play a “baby”
song. We’ll
see! Congrats Marshall!
Elliott Foster! What can I say? He’s like Quick
Draw
McGraw. Elliott likes to learn it, play it and
move on to
the next challenge. When he grows up, he
wants to
be a race car driver. So, I guess between his
racecar
wins, he'll play himself a tune. Excellent job
Elliott!
Kevin Lucas has a story to tell every week.
They are
good stories and they are funny. There’s one
problem, they’re never about music. But, what
can I
say; everybody needs somebody to listen to
their
story. Kevin has become very good at piano.
His new
found confidence makes my job a lot easier.
He’s
always in a rush to get to his next
appointment. So,
he’s figured out that the best thing to do is
practice, do
well and move on. Kudos Kevin!
Changa Muzi just joined Want Music on 2/24.
His first
lesson was on 3/3. In one week, Changa
learned all
his notes in both clefs and played a couple
songs. I
call him Mr. Wizard! Hang on in there Changa!
Scott and Asya. Daddy and daughter, old and
young.
I’ll give you one guess on who’s moving
faster. You
got it! Asya! Asya recognizes the pentascale
and
plays it well, while Scott...well, you fill in the
blanks. Great job Asya. Keep trying Scott!
