A Word from Bonnie
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!

Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Perfect submission, perfect delight! Visions of rapture now burst on my sight, Angels descending bring from above, Echoes of mercy, whispers of love

Perfect submission – all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blest; Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love

This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long; This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long

Author – Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance o9f faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:22

Music Workshop 2008 Held

On Friday and Saturday, June 20-21, Music Workshop 2008 was held under the leadership of Sister Bonnie Perry-Heath of Want Music? Ministry, Knightdale, NC and Reverend Ronzel Bell, Director of Music Ministries at Martin Street Baptist Church. The theme for the workshop was “Preparing The Way Through Passion,” based on 1 Peter 1:10-11.

The Chief Clinician for the workshop was Reverend Rodney A. Teal from Israel Baptist Church in Washington, DC. There he serves a dual role as the Minister of Music and the Administrative Assistant to the Pastor, Reverend Dr. Morris L. Shearin, Sr. He is a multi-gifted member of the Body of Christ, and has been involved in ministry as a choir director, songwriter, praise and worship leader, author, teacher and preacher for more than 20 years. He is an active, committed member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA), serving with distinction on the local and national levels and as a tenured faculty member in the Academic Division. Reverend Teal is frequently called upon to minister through preaching of the Word of God and sharing the songs of the Lord at workshops, conferences and seminars across the United States.

The workshop actives on Friday included a lecture and choir rehearsal learning songs written and or arranged by Reverend Teal. At 6:00 p.m. the workshop choir presented a concert, which included the following selections: Awesome Grace, Jesus, I Love Your Name, It Is A Good Thing To Give Thanks and Sweet Jesus. This ministry of music blessed the members of the workshop choir and the audience.

On Saturday, the workshop participants received further instruction by Reverend Teal and attended other class sessions. The other classes offered were:

Piano and Organ Master Class by Reverend Ronzel Bell; Voice Master Class by Sister Dorthea Taylor; Effective Choir Rehearsals by Minister Ophelia W. Livingston; What Does The Word Say About It? by Reverend Kirby D. Jones; Sight Reading Fundamentals by Sister Angela D. Sessoms; and How To Start A Praise Team by Sister Verna Best.

All of the workshop participants were blessed the have had this opportunity to learn and practice and they continue in the ministry of the Lord.
